AAA welcomes NAIF loan for Townsville Airport redevelopment, calls on Qantas to support project

Australian Airports Association (AAA) welcomed (06-Mar-2019) the announcement of a AUD50 million (USD35.3 million) Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) loan for the Townsville Airport redevelopment. AAA CEO Caroline Wilkie said the redevelopment will create new tourism and trade opportunities for the north Queensland region, commenting: "The airport redevelopment is absolutely essential, with passenger numbers increasing more than 80% since the airport was last upgraded. This project will not only meet the needs of today's passengers, but will ensure Townsville Airport can support future growth". An airport apron upgrade was delivered in 2018.
