ACI EUROPE director: European traffic decreasing following summer 2021 season

19 September, 2021

ACI EUROPE reported (17-Sep-2021) passenger traffic across the European airport network for Jul-2021 was down 49.3% on Jul-2019 levels. Cargo traffic was up 4.3%, while aircraft movements dropped 36.5%. The best performing markets were Romania (-32.6%), Greece (-33.3%) and Luxembourg (-44.5%), while the UK (-81.2%), Ireland (-81.7%) and Finland (-81.9%) suffered the biggest declines. ACI EUROPE director Olivier Jankovec said the figures did not represent a recovery, adding traffic is "plateauing and even decreasing again" following the summer holiday period. Mr Jankovec called for governments to eliminate restrictions for fully vaccinated passengers within and beyond Europe, in addition to the global standardisation of the EU COVID-19 Digital Certificate.
