Air France aiming to increase to 70% of 2019 capacity levels at the end of 2021; believes M&A opportunities may emerge in 2022

Air France CEO Anne Rigail said that while COVID-19 vaccinations are “not going to make big changes” to the carrier’s traffic forecasts in the short term, it does expect a recovery in 2Q2021 (La Tribune, 21-Jan-2021). “The question is whether we will see an effect this summer or whether we will have to wait”, Ms Rigail continued. She also noted that once vaccination programmes take hold, the carrier may be able to increase capacity to up to 70% of pre-COVID-19 levels by the end of 2021. Ms Rigail said while Air France-KLM is “completely focused” on preserving its liquidity during the COVID-19 crisis, the group is “convinced” that M&A opportunities will eventually emerge, “possibly” in 2022.
