Air New Zealand: Up to two 787-9s to be grounded at any one time due to engine issue

Air New Zealand CEO Christopher Luxon, speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the IATA AGM and World Air Transport Summit, reported (05-Jun-2018) the carrier will be cycling up to two Boeing 787-9s out of service for inspections and maintenance to deal with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 Package C engine issue. Mr Luxon confirmed the carrier is dry leasing two aircraft to "restore the schedule", and announced that one of two aircraft have already been leased. A second lease should be agreed to soon stated Mr Luxon. As previously reported by CAPA, Air New Zealand has wet leased A330 and A340 widebody capacity from HiFly to cover earlier capacity shortfalls related to the grounding of its 787s.
