AirAsia Group CEO not planning to participate in proposed airport REIT, prefers 'full privatisation'

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said the carrier does not intend to participate in the Malaysian Government's proposed real estate investment trust (REIT) for airports, as outlined in the 2019 budget, stating: "It is not our job to build airports" (The Edge Markets, 13-Nov-2018). He commented: "We don't know the full mechanism and... we want to just focus on the airline business". Mr Fernandes added: "We would like to see full privatisation. So new players will come in, introduce different ways of running an airport".
