24 July, 2019

Airbnb is seeking a larger slice of the corporate travel pie as it witnesses an increase in companies using the accommodation platform to book stays for employees travelling on business. It already offers thousands of listings of relevance to business travellers, complete with flexible access, personal kitchens. But now, thanks to a new "work trip toggle", customers can more easily locate these listings.

The new option delivers new search capabilities for business trips and allows guests to customise their search results for travel and make more informed booking decisions by immediately filtering out holiday homes and other properties that are deemed less convenient offerings for corporates.

Airbnb says search results in the work trip toggle focus on listings that are "more relevant" for business trips, including entire homes, Airbnb Plus homes that are verified for quality and design, and boutique hotels. The property selection will be partly based on social recommendations based on positive ratings from business travellers, but also

The new search option went live this week and is available across desktop, mobile and app platforms. "Across web, mobile web, and all Airbnb apps - the new work trip toggle now gives guests a way to let us know what type of trip they're taking when they start their search for a place to stay," says Airbnb in a statement.

According to Airbnb, more than 500,000 companies use its business-focused Airbnb for Work platform, which includes centralised billing, expense notation, and company administration dashboards. The new work toggle search should make it even easier for anyone travelling on business to find the right place to stay and adds to the personalisation strategy of the platform.

"This new way to find work-friendly places to stay includes those that meet increased quality standards by showcasing listings that have received positive ratings from business travellers, and where hosts have indicated there are smoke and carbon monoxide detectors," Airbnb explains.

These developments in the corporate space are all part of Airbnb's mission is to "create a world where anyone can belong anywhere". As part of this it is focused on reimagining travel by building an end-to-end travel platform that combines where you stay, what you do, and how you get there, all in one place.

"As we move ahead, we are committed to making Airbnb the place where you plan every part of your trip," it says and highlights that many further developments will be revealed in the coming weeks and months. "As we work to build an end-to-end travel platform, we want to serve every guest, and make booking an Airbnb listing quick and easy," it adds.

Today, there are over six million listings in over 100,000 cities on the Airbnb platform. These listings include homes, apartments, hotel rooms, and unique places like 14,000 tiny houses, over 4,000 castles, and over 2,400 tree houses. Airbnb recently announced that nearly 70% of all listings can be booked using its Instant Book feature, where listings don't require approval from the host of a specific guest before they can be booked.

The value of being able to choose travel dates, and instantly book are valuable for all travellers, but particularly help business travellers who may be booking at the last minute.
