Adelaide Airport surging ahead in 2017
Growth in international passengers for FY2017 continues to be a good news story for the airport. In fact, this period recorded an 11% year-on-year, the highest of all the major capital cities in Australia, and a total annual growth of 2.5%.

China became the biggest international growth market for Adelaide during this period, thanks to the introduction of China Southern's Adelaide-Guangzhou service. This contributed an additional 16,848 seats for the quarter.
Qatar Airways was another key international carrier which contributed to this growth in international passengers adding 7,928 seats after starting part way through May-2016.
Fiji Airways also launched its Adelaide-Nadi on 30-Jun-2017, which will further to add to Adelaide Airports growth for the next financial year. The route operates twice weekly utilising Boeing 738 aircraft. Interestingly this offers South Australian residents an alternative stopover on the way to/from the United States.

Jetstar announces nonstop Hobart-Adelaide service
Jetstar announced (07-Aug-2017) a new seasonal three times weekly Hobart-Adelaide service from 14-Nov-2017. Jetstar Group CCO Catriona Larritt stated: "Jetstar will be the only airline to connect the two cities, with thousands of travellers currently travelling via Melbourne. Both Hobart and Adelaide are experiencing record tourism numbers, and we expect inbound tourism to the two cities to further strengthen with the addition of our new direct flights". Adelaide Airport MD: Adelaide-Hobart route 'our largest unserved market for some time'
Adelaide Airport MD Mark Young stated (07-Aug-2017) the Adelaide-Hobart route "has been our largest unserved market for some time". Jetstar's newly announced Adelaide-Hobart service will be the first direct route between the two cities since 2010. The airport expects to welcome 56,000 additional seats p/a from the service. Tourism Tasmania and Jetstar to target South Australia travellers
Tourism Tasmania announced (07-Aug-2017) plans to launch a marketing campaign targeted at South Australian residents to coincide with the commencement of Jetstar's Hobart-Adelaide route. As previously reported by CAPA, Jetstar plans to add 56,000 seats to Tasmania per year, of which Tourism Tasmania is expecting 46,000 visitors to Tasmania from South Australia. [more - original PR]
China is Adelaide Airport's biggest international growth market for FY2016/17
Adelaide Airport reported (26-Jul-2017) China became the biggest international growth market in the 12 months to Jun-2017, with the US and UK also growing strongly. This was largely attributed by China Southern Airlines' new Guangzhou service. China Southern Airlines to increase Guangzhou-Adelaide frequency to five times weekly
China Southern Airlines plans to increase Guangzhou-Adelaide frequency from three to five times weekly from 10-Dec-2017 to 26-Feb-2018, operating with A330-300 aircraft (Carnoc.com, 04-Aug-2017). China Southern launched the route in Dec-2016, reporting a load factor close to 90% since launch.
Adelaide Airport to welcome Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 service
Adelaide Airport, via its official Instagram account, announced (27-Jul-2017) an Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 will arrive at the airport for the first time on 28-Jul-2017. As previously reported by CAPA, Air New Zealand will add the aircraft to its existing A320 service during the peak period from 26-Oct-2017 to 25-Mar-2018. The Boeing 787-9 is expected to operate on the route three times weekly.
