19 July, 2021

American Airlines committed (16-Jul-2021) to a science based target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, supporting an existing commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050. It is the first carrier in North America to commence a validation process with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature. The carrier will develop a 2035 emissions reduction target which will be reviewed by the SBTi to confirm its consistency with the latest climate science. [more - original PR]
