Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to implement sustainable taxiing to improve local air quality

21 October, 2021

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport announced (21-Oct-2021) it is collaborating with other Dutch aviation sector stakeholders to investigate extra measures to improve local air quality, by reducing the levels of ultrafine particles at the airport. Research carried out by the TNO institute found ultrafine particle concentrations averaged 100,000 to 120,000 part per cubic centimetre outside the terminal and piers, compared to average measurements of 44,000 to 68,000 particles per cubic centimetre. In light of these results, additional measures and an acceleration of measures to further reduce ultrafine particle concentrations are being investigated. This includes the possibility of making 'sustainable taxiing' standard procedure at Schiphol by 2030, to be carried out in partnership with LVNL, KLM, Transavia and Corendon. [more - original PR]
