A hop, skip and jump along the Kangaroo Route

From a nine stop 'hop', via a one-stop 'skip' via an Asian or Middle East Hub to a non-stop 'jump' launching next spring, the popular Kangaroo Route linking Australia and the UK is one of aviation's most competitive long-haul air corridors. Now almost a dozen airlines are actively pursuing the around two million annual passengers flying between the two countries with itineraries routing via new emerging hubs across the globe.

Airlines boogie on down to US ‘music cities’

British Airways (BA) has confirmed it will operate a five times weekly London Heathrow-Nashville service, effective May-2018, with Boeing 787-8 equipment. This is overtly an inward flight promotion, encouraging Tennessee travellers to journey to London or to one of 130 onward destinations that BA offers at Heathrow, and one that should also support British business efforts in and around Nashville, which claims to have one of the fastest growing economies in the US. It means there will be 26 US cities directly accessible by BA flights from London in summer 2018 (though there is only one in the UK directly accessible from the US - London).

Holiday pester power costs European parents £184, but Eastern Med and Balkans offer best value

With thousands of families heading off to European hotspots during the school summer holidays, the annual Post Office Travel Money Family Holiday Report has revealed that pester power by kids set parents back an average of £184 on their trips abroad. This explains why two-thirds of families who set a budget (71%) overspent it by nearly a quarter (23%).

airBaltic confirms first five new routes for summer 2018 as it builds Riga connectivity

Latvian carrier airBaltic has announced five new routes for summer 2018 and confirmed there is more to come as it continues to deliver its Horizon 2021 business plan to further improve connections between the Baltic region and the rest of the world. The airline will add flights to Bordeaux (France), Gdansk (Poland), Lisbon (Portugal), Malaga (Spain) and Split (Croatia) offering eleven weekly frequencies across the five markets.

C Series scheduled debut at London City opens new network opportunities from the Docklands

The arrival of Bombardier CS100 C Series HB-JBA at London City on the evening of August 8, 2017 marked a key milestone for the airport serving the UK capital. The aircraft was operating its first scheduled passenger flight into the airport operating Swiss International Air Lines flight 'LX466' from Zurich and will replace the Avro RJ that has served the route for many years.

Asian markets provide best value for money for long haul city breaks from Europe

A trio of Far Eastern cities have been named best value for a long haul city break in a new barometer of costs for holidaymakers in ten cities with flight times of six or more hours from Europe. Research for the Post Office Travel Money Long Haul City Costs Barometer found that Bangkok is the cheapest overall destination, narrowly beating Tokyo and Beijing, while cities in North America were found to be significantly more expensive.

European airports’ best first half year in 10 years reminds planners of the forthcoming ‘capacity crunch’

Figures released by ACI Europe reveal that European airports had "by far the best first half year traffic performance in more than 10 years" in 1H2017, with passenger volumes expanding by close to 30% since 2012. EU and non-EU markets ended up posting similar growth levels in passenger traffic, at +8.7% and +9.9%, respectively.
