Beijing to overtake Paris as world’s largest Travel and Tourism city destination

Research by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has revealed that within the next decade, Beijing will overtake Paris to become the world’s largest Travel and Tourism city destination.

The report, sponsored by Visa and researched in partnership with Oxford Economics, analysed key indicators such as Travel and Tourism’s contribution to GDP, employment and traveller spend.

It analysed 82 cities around the world including four major Chinese metropolises, but while long term the outlook for some Chinese cities looks positive, prolonged travel restrictions and border closures have slowed down the recovery in the short term.

Four Seasons to debut Taiwan property in shadow of iconic Taipei 101 landmark

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Yuan Lih Construction Co, a developer that is part of Taipei-based Yuan Lih Group, have announced plans for a new luxury hotel in the heart of Taiwan’s capital.

Four Seasons Hotel Taipei will be located in the Xinyi District, directly opposite to Taipei 101, one of the most iconic skyscrapers in Asia and one of the tallest towers in the world. Construction of the new Hotel is already underway, and is anticipated to be complete in a few years’ time.

Taipei 101 is one of the top tourist attractions in the city and is home to high-end shopping, art galleries, and offices as well as the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation and other major banks and organisations.

APAC international arrival recovery will peak in 2023 before moderating as pent-up demand eases

Following strong annual percentage increases in Asia Pacific international visitor arrivals (IVAs) in 2022, predictions from Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) are now for a peak in that growth momentum in 2023 year-over-year, before slowly moderating in strength to 2025, as pent-up demand gradually eases.

The latest scenario forecasts from PATA for international arrivals into 39 Asia Pacific destinations predict that under the mild scenario, the return to pre-COVID-19 levels of IVAs will occur in 2023; under the medium scenario that is projected to occur in 2024, while under the severe scenario, even by the end of 2025, arrival numbers are predicted to still lag the 2019 benchmark by around 12%.

Marriott to debut Ritz-Carlton and Marriott Executive Apartments brands in Chinese city of Suzhou

Marriott International has confirmed plans to bring The Ritz-Carlton and Marriott Executive Apartments brands to the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou.

It currently already operates 15 hotels across eight brands in the city, including W Hotels, Marriott Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton, Element by Westin, Courtyard by Marriott, and Fairfield by Marriott.

The Ritz-Carlton Suzhou is expected to open at the end of 2024, featuring 190 guest rooms and suites designed by Remedios Studios. This will be followed in the middle of 2025 by the Marriott Executive Apartments, a serviced apartment brand targeted to long-stay travellers.

Elsewhere in China, IHG Hotels and Resorts has outlined plans to debut its Vignette Collection in the country, while across Asia Hyatt has confirmed it will debut its Hyatt House brand in Tokyo.
