Armidale Airport commences USD1.8m expansion project

Armidale Airport commenced (05-Oct-2021) work on its AUD2.5 million (USD1.8 million) expansion project, including a new taxiway, runway lighting improvements, installation of a refuelling apron, stormwater drainage and remediation of a grass runway. Armidale Regional Council Mayor Ian Tiley said the initiative will “facilitate improved delivery of essential goods and services, increase connectivity of our region to domestic and global market opportunities and meet the operational requirements of aeromedical and other emergency services in the area”. Council general manager James Roncon said the expansion will eliminate congestion and allow the airport to handle larger aircraft. The project is jointly funded by the Federal Government’s Regional Airports Program and Armidale Regional Council.
