Avis adds new ‘split my bill’ app feature for the bleisure set

Bleisure is now a mainstay in the travel industry, and all types of businesses are attempting to capitalise on opportunities of ever increasing populations mixing some leisure time into their business travel. There's now even a dedicated clothing brand for bleisure travel.

Perhaps on a more practical level, Avis Car Rental has crated a 'Split My Bill' feature on its mobile app that allows customers to divide payments between two different credit cards or any other forms of payment.

"The new Split My Bill feature allows travellers to divide costs associated with their rental between corporate and personal credit cards for greater convenience on the road and when reconciling travel expenses," says Avis. "Whether it is extending a corporate rental for a weekend vacation or upgrading a vehicle for a sunnier trip in a convertible, business travellers no longer have to worry about the blurring of lines between leisure and corporate travel expenses. The new functionality is a seamless process, putting control into the business travellers' hands…".

Avis did its research before developing the new feature for its app. In a recent survey of travellers, 87% said they are likely to mix business and leisure in the same trip. Catering to bleisure travellers clearly makes good business sense for companies looking to capitalise on engagement with millennials.

According to the second annual 'State of Business Travel Survey' by National Car Rental, 90% of millennials have engaged in bleisure travel in the past year compared with 81% of Generation Xers and 80% of baby boomers. While all three generations benefit from bleisure travel, recent industry reports say millennials have led the way in normalising the trend. Nearly half (49%) say they've extended business travel into a leisure trip or scheduled a vacation around business travel to save on costs.
