British Airways to add 150 frequencies at London Gatwick in summer 2018

British Airways announced (04-Jan-2018) plans to add 150 weekly frequencies at London Gatwick Airport in summer 2018, to offer the carrier's most extensive schedule in the 10 years to 2018. In summer 2017 the carrier operated 1000 flights a week at its peak. British Airways chairman and CEO Alex Cruz said: "We are also introducing several new destinations to the Gatwick programme, including Palma (Majorca), Mahon (Menorca) and Gibraltar... We've also increased the number of routes we serve by more than 50 per cent; in 2012 we flew to 48 different destinations, whereas now we serve 74". Planned schedule changes include the following frequency increases:

  • Alicante: From twice daily to 22 times weekly;
  • Faro: From 17 to 21 times weekly;
  • Lanzarote: From three to five times weekly;
  • Madeira: From six to nine times weekly;
  • Malaga: From 27 to 35 times weekly;
