27 October, 2020

Business Council of Australia (BCA) reported (22-Oct-2020) high value exports from Australia, including agricultural products, remain constrained due to international travel restrictions. Air exports of beef have declined 13% year-on-year in 2020 and sheep meat exports have decreased 34%. The value of lobster exports decreased 36%, with airfreight normally accounting for 75% of seafood exports. BCA stated the Australian Government's International Freight Assistance Mechanism has been "crucial" in maintaining international trade and "must continue". However, the council noted the only way for airfreight to rebound is with greater passenger aircraft bellyhold capacity. [more - original PR]
