Cairns & Great Barrier Reef region double number of business and tourism events

Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) director of business and tourism events Rosie Douglas reported (21-Aug-2017) Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef doubled the number of business events secured in 2016-17 for the destination, confirmed 46 corporate and association business events, which will bring a AUD45 million (USD35.7 million) into the regional economy. International clients are mainly from China, North America and New Zealand, with their events to be held through to 2020. Ms Douglas reported "Almost half of both the secured events and the leads were international clients wanting to take advantage of increased flight access to Cairns and the competitive Australian dollar".
