Chiang Mai aiming to reopen under 'Sandbox' model from 01-Aug-2021

10 June, 2021

Thailand's Chiang Mai region is undergoing preparations to reopen for vaccinated tourists from 01-Aug-2021 (The Phuket News, 08-Jun-2021). The city aims to implement a similar 'Sandbox' model as adopted by Phuket, which will reopen from 01-Jul-2021. The model would limit sightseeing itineraries to 'sealed routes', taking travellers to pre-approved local attractions with independent travel prohibited. The region aims to have 70% of its residents, around 286,000 people, vaccinated by the end of Jul-2021. Tourism Authority of Thailand will submit Chiang Mai's proposal to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration for approval.
