Maltese LCC growth creating 'stiff headwinds' for Air Malta

16 August, 2019

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report, entitled: 'Air Malta turnaround attempt: fleet renewal and network consolidation', stated (16-Aug-2019) Air Malta has not grown over the past decade, while Malta's market has doubled. Visitor numbers to Malta increased 119% to 2.6 million since 2009, concomitant with the island's increasing popularity as a tourist destination. Malta's rapid growth has been fuelled largely by European LCCs, creating stiff headwinds for Air Malta in its growth aspirations. Air Malta carried two million passengers in the 12 months ended Mar-2018, equalling the two million carried in FY2009. Its passenger traffic peaked in FY2008, at 2.2 million. [more - CAPA Analysis]
