Southwest Airlines has 'good inter island network' within Hawaii, maturation a 'first priority'

29 August, 2019

Southwest Airlines chief revenue officer (CRO) Andrew Watterson stated the carrier's maturation of its "good inter island network" within Hawaii, which is "not yet in full operation", is a "first priority" (BNN Bloomberg, 27-Aug-2019). Southwest's network within Hawaii will depend upon locals reacting to lower fares, mainland passengers connecting to another island and passengers who book tickets to multiple islands. Mr Watterson noted Southwest is able to "fill" flights with demand from the first type of passenger, but is still to receive the "other two", which gives the carrier "confidence" it will be able to "fill" its aircraft.
