The tone of the lounge has been designed to reflect the comfort and familiarity of a contemporary apartment, encompassing both the look and feel of the space. This relaxed theme is reflected in the choice of material, furniture, lighting, artwork, music and food, all of which the airline says have been carefully curated to emulate the idea of a real, modern home.
"Passengers leave the hustle and bustle of the airport behind as soon as they reach the reception area, where they are transported to an oasis of serenity," describes Cathay Pacific in promotional literature. It says it is "moving beyond for its customers with a superior experience at every stage of their journey".
The facility is available from 05:30 -21:00 each day and available to first and business Class passengers, Marco Polo Club Silver and above members, oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members and members of all tiers who have earned lounge passes and/or their friends and family members.
It provides 305 seats across a variety of areas including the main lounge, food hall and noodle bar which features customised Hong Kong-style furniture with wood-slat ceiling and wooden ceiling fans. A particular highlight of the lounge is the Terrace, an L-shaped, open-ceiling verandah that allows guests to take in panoramic views of the apron and runway while seated at one of the dining tables or bespoke Solo Chairs, which come with a built-in reading lamp and individual side table.
The design of the Terrace is similarly reflected in the open-ceiling food hall, where passengers wanting a pre-flight refreshment can enjoy the convenience of self-serve international hot and cold dishes, freshly baked treats, cheeses and cold cuts that can be picked up from the Servery counter. A variety of wines and spirits are also available at the self-service bar, giving guests the ability to mix their favourite pre-flight cocktails.
The lounge features a wide range of high-end furniture and lighting supplied by noted brands such as Fritz Hansen, Cassina, De La Espada, Knoll, Vitsœ, Living Divani, E15, Kalmar, Atelier Areti and Rich Brilliant Willing. The airline has also developed and customised its own furniture, including the side tables with incorporated lights and sockets for ease of access and use.
Cathay Pacific says the furniture has been "grouped carefully" to allow for maximum privacy for individual travellers, whilst giving the impression of a "more social, domestic and non-corporate environment". The lounge even has its own scent, a blend of lavender, bamboo, green tea and jasmine that makes it "instantly recognisable," says Cathay Pacific, and means "the passenger can relax in a familiar feeling of a comfortable home".
Cathay Pacific currently operates 30 weekly frequencies from Shanghai Pudong International to its Hong Kong International hub, but its Cathay Dragon operation offers around 80 further flights on the route. The latter is the largest operator in this market, a routing that is also served regularly by China Eastern Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Spring Airlines, Air China and Juneyao Airlines.
