DATA SPOTLIGHT: Chengdu Airlines

4 May, 2020

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot, we look at Chengdu Airlines, a domestic Chinese carrier that is one of only a handful of carriers to operate the indigenous 90-seater COMAC ARJ21 regional airliner.

The airline, a subsidiary of Sichuan Airlines, operates - as its name suggests - from Chengdu's Shuangliu International Airport but has revised its network a little this summer to take into account changing demand patterns. For the first time it is now basing aircraft overnight at Yinchuan, Weihai, Quanzhou and Fuzhou airports for the current 2020 summer season, effective 03-May-2020.

According to its latest schedule update, the carrier plans to open 10 new routes using its COMAC ARJ21-700 fleet and 11 new routes using its Airbus fleet. It also plans to resume service on 15 other routes which were previously suspended due domestic travel restrictions.

ABOUT
Established as United Eagle Airlines in 2004, the carrier was rebranded as Chengdu Airlines in 2010. The airline is privately owned and is based in Chengdu, Sichuan, People's Republic of China. The carrier operates domestic passenger services out of its primary hub at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.
