DATA SPOTLIGHT: France

7 October, 2020

This year the Corporate Travel Community (CTC) will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot at where they sit today in the Covid-19 impacted world, we look at France, where a second wave of Covid-19 infections is stalling the recovery.

This is currently particularly evident around its capital, Paris, where there are more than 200 active coronavirus "clusters" in the wider Paris region, according to French health officials. As of this week all bars have been completely shut after the French government raised the city's coronavirus alert to maximum following a period of high infection rates.

Other locations such as bars, gyms and swimming pools will all be closed for two weeks in a bid to curb the spread of the virus, but restaurants will remain open if strict hygiene rules are in place as France adopts what are described as "braking measures" to slow down the rate of infections so the country's health system is not overwhelmed.

France's maximum alert level comes into force when the infection rate in a locality exceeds 250 infections per 100,000 people and at least 30% of intensive care beds are reserved for Covid-19 patients.

The country has been struggling to contain a rising rate of infection which started to grow exponentially in late August and France's second city, Marseille, evoked its own restrictions towards the end of last month.
