US‘ Denver City Council voted to initiate the environmental review process for a USD1.2 billion project to construct a seventh runway at Denver International Airport (Loveland Reporter-Herald/KRDO, 28/29-Sep-2021). The council awarded the following contracts:
- USD46 million to Jacobs Engineering Group for design consulting;
- USD22.5 million to AECOM Technical Services for project management;
- USD15 million to HNTB Corporation to conduct an environmental assessment or a comprehensive environmental impact statement, including consideration of runway placement options.
The process is also expected to involve some consideration of an eighth runway. The runway, if approved by US FAA, is expected to open in late 2028.
