CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Istanbul and Moscow airports top the European league', stated (15-Oct-2021) domestic capacity and demand has been the deciding factor in Istanbul Airport, Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport occupying the top four positions among Europe's busiest airports for 1H2021. International demand and transit traffic is also credited for the Turkish airports' performance, with the report suggesting the country is well placed to retain the transit traffic it attracted during the pandemic.
