EASA suspends PIA approval to operate to Europe for six months

1 July, 2020

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), via its official Twitter account, stated (01-Jul-2020) "EASA has suspended PIA's permission to operate to EU member states" for a six month period, commencing 01-Jul-2020 (Reuters/Associated Press/GeoTV/Pakistan Today, 30-Jun-2020). The measure follows the grounding of approximately 150 PIA pilots following a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority investigation that found evidence the pilots may hold "dubious licences". PIA plans to temporarily suspend all services to Europe. The airline reported it is "in touch with EASA to allay their concerns and hopes that the suspension will be revoked with our CBMs soon".
