Electra Aero to commence flight tests of eSTOL tech demonstrator aircraft in 2022

Electra Aero announced (17-Aug-2021) it plans to commence flight testing of a full-scale hybrid electric short take off and landing (eSTOL) tech demonstrator aircraft in 2022. The design will seat two and take off and land in distances under 150 feet. It will use a 150-kW hybrid-electric turbogenerator to power eight electric motors and charge a custom battery system during flight. This demonstrator will be used to provide data and operational experience to support and reduce risk of the certification. [more – original PR]
