30 September, 2021

ENAC president Pierluigi Di Palma stated (30-Sep-2021) it is a "certainty" that after the pandemic, "nothing will be the same again" and it is necessary to accelerate the pace of technological change to support society and reduce the impact air transport has on the environment. Mr Di Palma said COVID-19 has produced an "epochal upheaval" which will lead to the gradual implementation of new integrated and intermodal models of mobility in the air and on land. As such, there is a need to develop "innovative and eco-sustainable solutions on which new business scenarios will be based for the implementation of mobility as a service". For Italy to "achieve global leadership" in this, Mr Di Palma said it is essential that significant coordination be achieved among government actions, with aviation regulators, territorial governments and industrial development coordinated in a way that incorporate the European guidelines for the establishment of a system "resilient to future changes".
