CAPA: Europe underperforms by operational fleet and seat capacity in Jan-2021

1 February, 2021

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Europe's aircraft fleet in service falls as capacity slides', stated (31-Jan-2021) Europe has 3520 passenger jet aircraft in operation as of late Jan-2021, down 39% year-on-year after a brief upturn in Dec-2020. The figure represents 56% of the total European fleet, less than the global average of 65% in service as of 26-Jan-2021. Europe is also underperforming in seat capacity compared to the rest of the world, at only 25% of 2019 levels for the week of 25-Jan-2021, which is the lowest since Jun-2020. Further cuts are expected in the near term in Europe as national lockdowns continue and travel restrictions tighten. Once demand picks up, LCCs are expected to lead the way. [more - CAPA Analysis]
