European aviation recovery remains on a plateau as of Sep-2021

22 September, 2021

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'European aviation: capacity and traffic recoveries on a plateau', stated (21-Sep-2021) Europe's aviation recovery remains on a plateau, with no significant change in seat numbers or passenger numbers, compared to 2019 levels, since early Aug-2021. Total seat numbers remain 34.2% below 2019 levels as of 20-Sep-2021, marking the eighth week of levels at around 34%. Europe remains the fourth ranked region for capacity recovery, after North America, Latin America and Africa. European airport passenger numbers were down 41% compared to 2019 as of 05-Sep-2021. Traffic recovery is weakest in the UK, stronger in southern Europe than in northern markets and strongest in the non-EU Eastern Europe region. The easing of travel restrictions by the UK from 04-Oct-2021 and the US from early Nov-2021 may help nudge Europe up from its plateau. [more - CAPA Analysis]
