European Commission: SAF mandates may impact 2050 ticket prices by 8%

European Commission forecast sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) mandates supporting net zero carbon emissions targets will impact ticket prices by 8% in 2050, when the target is scheduled to be met (euractiv.com, 01-Oct-2021). EU regulations submitted in Jul-2021 proposed the removal of kerosene’s tax free status, phasing out free CO2 permits, and the introduction of a mandate that aircraft refuelling at EU airports take a certain percentage of SAF. SAF blending requirements will rise from 2% in 2025 to 63% in 2050.
