French National Assembly approves legislation that could end some short haul domestic flights

14 April, 2021

France's National Assembly voted in support of legislation to cut carbon emissions by 40% by 2030, against a 1990 baseline, including a ban on short haul domestic flights on routes than can be covered by train in under 150 minutes (Reuters, 12-Apr-2021). The measure reportedly would halt the majority of short haul domestic flights to Paris Orly, Bordeaux, Lyon and Nantes, with services to Marseille also at risk. Some domestic services to Paris Charles de Gaulle reportedly would be permitted to continue.
