IATA CEO: Airline cashflow an 'apocalyptic situation'

16 July, 2020

IATA director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac said the cashflow of airlines is an "apocalyptic situation" and the industry is attempting to convince the European Commission to allow it to delay passenger refunds through use of a voucher system to reimburse passengers for cancelled flights (BFM Business/AFP, 14-Jul-2020). The European Commission has opened a case against 10 EU states for failing to enforce consumer protection regulations around passenger refunds, which require airlines to reimburse passengers for cancelled flights within two weeks.
