IATA: Full recovery is going to take time for the air travel sector

13 January, 2021

IATA chief economist Brian Pearce, speaking at CAPA Live January 2021, stated (13-Jan-2021) "The message for airline investors is that the transition from cash burn in the airline industry to cash generation is now in sight, but it might not arrive before the end of this year, and I think we do have a very difficult three to six months ahead of us because of travel restrictions". Mr Pearce added: "Cash burn is going to continue for the next six months, and indeed in certain regions, such as Europe, it may well increase because of the immediate challenges". He concluded: "There is strong evidence of pent up demand for air travel", but said "full recovery is going to take time for the air travel sector".
