IATA: International RPKs down 75% in 2020, load factors fell nearly 20%

IATA reported (03-Feb-2021) the following 2020 international passenger traffic highlights:

  • Global: International passenger demand (RPKs) down 75.6% year-on-year. Capacity (ASKs) down 68.1% and load factor fell 19.2pp to 62.8%;
  • Asia Pacific: Traffic down 80.3%, the deepest decline for any region. Capacity was down 74.1% and load factor fell 19.5pp to 61.4%;
  • Europe: 73.7% traffic decline, with capacity falling 66.3%. Load factor decreased 18.8pp to 66.8%;
  • Middle East: Passenger demand down 72.9%, while capacity fell 63.9% dropping load factor 18.9pp to 57.3%;
  • North America: Traffic down 75.4%. Capacity dropped 65.5%, and load factor fell 23.9 percentage points to 60.1%;
  • Latin America: 71.8% traffic decline, making it the best performing region after Africa. Capacity fell 67.7% and load factor dropped 10.4pp to 72.4%, by far the highest among regions;
  • Africa: Traffic fell 69.8%, which was the best performance among regions. Capacity dropped 61.5%, and load factor fell 15.4pp to 55.9%, the lowest among regions. [more - original PR]
