Infraero: Airports remain open as 'air transport is essential' for medical response to COVID-19

22 March, 2020

Infraero announced (22-Mar-2020) all 47 of its airports are operational and will continue operating unrestricted, unless there is a Federal Government directive. Infraero president Paes de Barros stated: "This is happening because air transport is essential for the transport, for instance, of organs for transplant, medical teams, goods and medical supplies". Infraero added: "It is up to the Federal Government to decide on changes to airport operations and closure of borders". As previously reported by CAPA, some Brazilian state governments are seeking to close airports to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. [more - original PR - Portuguese]
