Italy's Industry Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti reported talks with the European Commission concerning Alitalia have stalled and he believes a "new plan of action is necessary" in order to allow the carrier to continue operating (Reuters, 31-Mar-2021). Italy plans to restructure Alitalia into a new state owned company called ITA, which it hopes to launch in time for the peak summer 2021 travel period. Negotiations have been ongoing since early 2020.
