JetBlue Airways signs MoU for 60 A220-300 aircraft, to replace E190 fleet

JetBlue Airways signed (10-Jul-2018) a MoU with Airbus for 60 firm orders for the A220-300, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2020. The carrier also converted 25 of its current orders for A320neo aircraft to the A321neo, with deliveries scheduled to commence from 2025. The A321neos and A220s will be powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF PW1500G engines. JetBlue plans to phase in the A220-300 as a replacement for its existing fleet of 60 Embraer 190 aircraft. The A220-300's range and seating capacity will add flexibility to JetBlue's network strategy as it targets growth in its focus cities, including options to deploy it on transcontinental routes. The aircraft also opens the possibility of new markets and routes that would have been unprofitable with JetBlue's existing fleet. The phase out of its E190 fleet will continue gradually until approximately 2025. The A220 aircraft will be assembled in Mobile.
