Jetstar’s A321neoLRs. A lot of alphabet set to transform the way people fly

22 February, 2018

Jetstar today announced the introduction of the A321neoLR, with 18 aircraft due to enter its fleet between 2020 and 2022. The idea is that this aircraft will free up some of its Boeing 787-8 aircraft for additional flying and will be deployed on "new destinations", adding capacity on leisure routes to Hawaii, China, Thailand and Vietnam.

This aircraft could transform the way people fly, helping bypass hubs and linking cities directly, where previously larger aircraft needed too many passengers to make it worth serving them.

You have to think Jetstar is being a bit shy about the routes it might fly with the new A321neoLRs it's going to start receiving in the next couple of years. After all this is a relatively small aircraft that can connect smaller (or larger) destinations that are up to 8 hours apart.

And after all they'll be leaving a lot on the table for their competition if they leave too many gaps in the market. As we reported (Batik Air - a Lion in sheep's clothing in the Australia market?), there are airlines on our doorstep that are ready to launch.

Indonesia based Lion Air Group's Batik Air has confirmed that the airline plans to pursue significant expansion in the Australia-Bali market in 2019. The airline will utilise new generation narrow body long haul A320neo family aircraft.
