17 May, 2021

Bega Valley Shire Council stated (14-May-2021) the Southern Regional Planning Panel approved major civil works at Merimbula Airport, aimed at increasing visitor numbers to the shire. Works include 120m runway extensions, allowing carriers to land larger aircraft. The entire runway will also be resurfaced. Bega Valley Shire Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick stated: "We are currently limited by the size of aircraft our runway can accommodate… This approval allows us to progress a 120m extension at each end of the runway, meaning QantasLink will be able to land Q400 aircraft at Merimbula Airport".
