22 December, 2017

If you are heading off for a city break soon, you might be in for a nasty shock when it comes to buying a round of drinks. We may now be in the season of good cheer, but did you know that the cost of buying a beer, coffee, bottle of water and a cola can cost anything from less than GBP4 to almost GBP14 depending upon which city in the world you are in. The big cost differential for these four drinks has been revealed by Honest Coffees, which has gathered together the price of these most popular drinks across 30 global cities.

Summary:

  • Cost of buying a beer, coffee, bottle of water and a cola can cost anything from less than GBP4 to almost GBP14 depending upon which city in the world you are in.
  • The Egyptian capital, Cairo, offers the cheapest bill for the four drinks - GBP1.95 for a beer, GBP1.67 for a coffee, GBP0.19 for a cola and GBP0.12 for a bottle of water.
  • The French capital, Paris, is the most expensive for the drinks - GBP6.14 for a beer, GBP3.48 for a coffee, GBP2.42 for a cola and GBP1.65 for a bottle of water.

Its findings shows that buying a beer, coffee, bottle of water and a cola in Paris could set you back close to £14, but by heading down to Cairo you could get all those drinks for just £3.92! But prices of each drink vary significantly between the cities - whereas Dubai's beer prices are sky-high, you can grab a soft drink for just GBP0.40!

Looking more closely at the findings, the analysis shows the cost of a beer will set you back more than GBP6 on average in Hong Kong, New York, Paris and Singapore, and over GBP8 in Dubai, likely due to its licencing restrictions. However, it is less than GBP2 in the African cities of Cairo and Cape Town.

If it is bottle of water you want the price ranges from GBP0.12 in Cairo and GBP0.20 in Bangkok to GBP1.65 in Paris and GBP1.61 in Auckland, while a cola could cost you between GBP0.19 in Cairo and GBP2.42 in Paris.

It doesn't take a genius where, Honest Coffees interest lays in this analysis. The company's founders, Wyatt and Grace, launched the business in 2012 with a mission to create top quality, ethically-produced coffee and now sell over a million cups of coffee a year.

It seems that Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is the cheapest city to enjoy a coffee, where a cup will only set you back by GBP1.32, almost a third of the price of the most expensive city for the drink, yes, you've guessed it… Paris, where a cup costs GBP3.48 on average.
