3 June, 2020

Cook Islands' Prime Minister Henry Puna said the Cook Islands "feel that we are part of New Zealand, we are New Zealanders and we're part of your domestic travel market" (Newshub, 03-Jun-2020). Mr Puna added: "According to our health professionals, we are ready to reopen our borders to New Zealand". Cook Islands Government said the region has been "virus-free and have been for nearly two months counts very much in our favour… I think we can take comfort that there can be exchanges of visits with our two countries with no risks of infection" and has been in contact with Air New Zealand for the resumption of travel.
