Corsair CEO: French eco tax 'will not in any way lead to a viable ecological transition'

18 July, 2019

Corsair chairman and CEO Pascal de Izaguirre said the aviation 'eco tax' tax to be introduced in France is economic and ecological "nonsense" (Le Point, 18-Jul-2019). He argued limiting the tax to mainland France will only damage the competitiveness of French airlines, which are "already suffocating" from higher average tax contributions compared with other EU countries. Mr de Izaguirre also argued taxing air traffic to finance modes of ground transportation "will not in any way lead to a viable ecological transition". He estimated the tax will represent EUR2 million p/a in additional costs at Corsair, and up to EUR90 million p/a combined for all French airlines.
