Iberia tests new basic fare on monopoly routes to US ahead of rollout to other destinations

Iberia launched (11-Apr-2018) a new 'Basic' long haul fare, in partnership with British Airways, American Airlines and Finnair, available on Madrid-Boston, Madrid-Chicago and Madrid-Dallas services. The fare is available for passengers intending to travel without luggage and without selecting a seat. The fare includes inflight F&B, IFE, headphones and blankets. Pricing examples for Madrid-Boston service are as follows:

  • 'Basic' fare
    • Fare price: EUR470
    • Checked bag: EUR45 online, EUR50 at the airport;
    • Seat selection: From EUR15;
  • 'Optima' fare
    • Fare price: EUR550
    • Checked bag: inclusive;
    • Seat selection: inclusive.

Iberia will extend the fare to other destinations "throughout the next months". According to OAG, Iberia holds a monopoly on Madrid-Boston and Madrid-Chicago services, while American Airlines operates Dallas-Madrid service. [more - original PR - Spanish]
