IOC confirms suspension of fuel supply to Air India at six airports

23 August, 2019

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) reported state owned oil marketing companies suspended supply of aviation turbine fuel to Air India at six airports on 22-Aug-2019, including Pune Lohegaon Airport, Patna Airport, Cochin International Airport, Chandigarh Airport, Ranchi Birsa Munda Airport and Visakhapatnam Airport (Economic Times/Live Mint/CNBC-TV18/The Hindu BusinessLine, 22/23-Aug-2019). IOC attributed the measure to non payment of dues. Air India spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar confirmed the suspension of fuel supply, noting "In the absence of equity support Air India cannot handle the huge debt service liabilities". Mr Kumar added: "Our financial performance however this fiscal is very good and we are moving towards a healthy operating profit. The airline despite its legacy issues is performing well".
