Qantas to make concerted effort to increase number of women pilots

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce reported the carrier plans to hire more than 300 pilots across the group, and wants to increase the level of female pilot intake" (Northern Daily Leader, 22-Nov-2017). Mr Joyce said there will be a "concerted" effort to reduce gender inequality and that the carrier will target schools, flying schools and cadet programmes to improve female participation in the field. Qantas has committed a 20% of women for its pilot cadet intake for 2018. Across the Qantas Group, approximately 5% of pilots are women, compared to an international average of about 3% said Mr Joyce.
