SDATS, ABB look to convert Västerås Airport into a fully digitalised, automated facility

23 June, 2020

Saab Digital Air Traffic Solutions (SDATS) and Sweden's ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) plan to convert Stockholm Västerås Airport into a fully digitalised, automated airport system as early as 2025 (TT News Agency, 21-Jun-2020). The project has the intention of avoiding the closure of the airport due to financial difficulties and ultimately extending the project to other small airports in the country. SDATS CEO Per Ahl said that "much of the technology already exists in other areas" and that the aim is to "sew it together in a new way". Västerås Airport is owned by the City of Västerås and currently employs about 32 staff.
