Thailand Govt to offer USD772m in soft loans to seven carriers

Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha reported plans to offer relief measures to the country's carriers, including around THB24 billion (USD772.3 million) in soft loans (Bangkok Post/Pattay Mail, 28-Aug-2020). Mr Chan-o-cha met with representatives from Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, Thai Smile, Thai Lion Air, Thai VietJet Air, Bangkok Airways and Nok Air and urged the carriers not to reduce their workforces. He said government is collaborating with the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration to consider easing travel restrictions to promote domestic tourism. Thailand's Permanent Secretary Prasong Poontaneat added the loans will be offered through commercial banks in Oct-2020, and airline charge reductions will extend to Mar-2021.
