Tonga Government announces border reopening

Tonga's Government announced (25-Jul-2022) its borders will open on 01-Aug-2022, and be reviewed in Sep-2022. Key details of the border policy framework include:

  • The frequency of incoming services to Tonga will be limited to twice weekly from New Zealand between 01-Aug-2022 and 28-Aug-2022, twice weekly from Fiji and weekly from Australia in Aug-2022. Between 29-Aug-2022 and 31-Oct-2022, there will be six weekly frequencies from New Zealand;
  • All travellers ages 12 and above must be fully vaccinated with two prescribed coronavirus vaccine doses prior to entry;
  • Travel insurance is advised for all foreign visitors;
  • A vaccine certificate is required for check in. A hard copy of the certificate must be presented at check in and upon arrival into Tonga. Passengers with medical conditions that deem themselves exempt from Vaccination must email [email protected] at least 48 hours before departure with a written report from a registered medical officer stating reasons for exemptions;
  • Supervised Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) negative result within 24 hours of departure from originating airport for all passengers. The result is to be emailed and include the testing laboratory or Clinic letterhead and stamp. The lab result must be presented in hardcopy at check in;
  • All passengers must fill in the Health Arrival Declaration Form inflight;
