United Airlines to operate 34% of Sep-2020 and 40% of Oct-2020 schedules

United Airlines announced (04-Sep-2020) plans to operate 34% of its full schedule in Sep-2020 and 40% of its full schedule in Oct-2020. The carrier intends to operate 38% of its full domestic schedule in Sep-2020, and 46% of its full domestic schedule in Oct-2020. United Airlines VP for domestic network planning Ankit Gupta stated: "Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we're adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we're seeing increased customer demand for travel". Internationally, United expects to operates 29% of its schedule in Sep-2020 and 33% of its schedule in Oct-2020. Route changes will include the following:

  • Domestic:
    • Resumption/launch of nearly 50 services, including 37 services from Chicago, Denver and Houston hubs;
    • Resumption of additional service to Florida, including Washington Dulles-Sarasota, Washington Dulles-Miami and Denver-Fort Myers;
    • Resumption of service between Los Angeles and Eugene, Medford and Redmond;
    • Resumption of eight services to Hawaii, pending approval of Hawaii's pre arrival COVID-19 test programme;
  • International:
    • Resumption of service to 14 destinations, including Bogota, Buenos Aires, Lima and Panama City;
    • Increase frequency on New York Newark-Tel Aviv service to twice daily, and resume three times weekly Washington-Tel Aviv service from 25-Oct-2020;
    • Resume/increase service from Chicago, Denver, Houston, New York Newark and Washington to Cancun, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta.

In order to better realign schedule patterns with passenger demand in Oct-2020, United also plans to schedule more frequencies on days popular with leisure travellers wishing to start early on long weekend getaways and will schedule fewer frequencies on days when demand is traditionally lower.
