Widerøe director of strategy/infrastructure: Increased VAT could lead to 37 route closures

20 August, 2019

Widerøe director of strategy and infrastructure Terje Skram reported the carrier would have to close up to 37 routes if Norway's Ministry of Finance approves a value added tax increase from 12% to between 23% and 25% (Stavanger Aftenblad/Nordlys, 19/18-Aug-2019). Mr Skram further noted the airline is no longer profitable due to airfare and CO2 taxes, and called for the Norwegian Government to lower the tax to similar levels in Sweden and Denmark.
